The seats are rock hard. One of the first things I noticed.
I've compared the new carriages to the Metro trams, which also have the panoramic windows etc. And a bit of padding on the seats.
I don't use them for more than a couple of stops, but even with my amply padded derriere I wouldn't fancy travelling all the way to Liverpool on them. Not a big issue for me, but I wouldn't look forward a long daily commute on them. Even the old Northern 'bus on rails' carriages were comfier.
Having said that the accessibility is excellent.

When I travelled on one I didn't notice any difference to the old trains except that the carriage seemed more roomy and airy.
Perhaps if people didn't stick chewing gum all over and put feet on the seats we would have better more comfy upholstery rather than something that is more easy replaced / cleaned
